When stocking up on brushes, it's up to us how long they will remain usable. One thing is certain: with proper care, they will last a long time. How to properly wash and care for Ibra Makeup brushes.
Washing brushes
The method of washing brushes and the products used depend on whether you use natural or synthetic bristles. Natural bristles require special care. Use very gentle products that do not dry out the bristles and allow them to maintain their elasticity. Otherwise, the hair will crumble or fall out.
Wash brushes under running, warm (but not hot) water. First, wet the brush with water, holding the bristles downwards. Do not allow water to get into the handle, as it will delaminate the glue, and after some time, hairs will start to fall out of the brush, or the ferrule will detach. Then, apply a cleansing gel to the bristles and gently massage with sweeping motions, without pressing the brush—as if painting a picture. Repeat these motions until there is no dirt or liquid left on the brush. Then, rinse with plenty of water, also with the bristles downwards.
Drying brushes
After washing, brushes should be dried with a paper towel to remove excess water, covers should be placed on them, and they should be left to air dry. Remember not to dry brushes with the bristles facing upwards. Water can then run into the handle and loosen the glue or, even worse, lead to rot. Brushes should also not be dried on a radiator or with a hairdryer. This can damage the bristles.
Maintaining bristle shape
To help brushes retain their original shape for as long as possible, after washing, we can use special nets/guards. After squeezing out excess water, place an appropriately sized guard on the damp brush. The brush can be laid flat or placed vertically, for example, in a glass, and left to dry.
What not to do with brushes:
- dry with a hairdryer,
- dry on a radiator,
- dry in the sun,
- soak them entirely in water,
- dry with bristles up or horizontally—water can then delaminate the brush,
- clean bristles with circular motions—they can deform,
- rinse with hot water—this damages and dries out the bristles,
- bend the bristles,
- store in the bathroom—steam and high temperatures can cause the glue to loosen.
How to care for brushes:
- dry at room temperature,
- rinse with lukewarm water,
- dry with the handle upwards—this is an option for those who have brush guards—otherwise, dry horizontally so that the bristles lie on a flat surface,
- foundation, concealer, and eyeliner brushes should be washed daily—otherwise, you're applying not only cosmetics but also sebum, dust, and dirt to your face,
- store preferably in a closed tube, cosmetic bag, or drawer—brushes then collect less dust.
